Invitations

With a little bit of a kickstart from a kit at Michaels, I made the invitations myself. I had an idea of what I wanted them to look like, but was having difficulty finding the right white cardstock with a silver border in a size that i could mount to black cardstock and still fit into a 5x7 envelope.

Until i found this kit at Michaels. It is the Martha Stewart Heirloom Ornament Invitations.

The kit came with it's own paper "bellyband" for the invites, but i thought it was ugly. So, from various pictures I had gathered, i decided to use ribbon instead. First things first, i printed the invites myself. The kit comes with a few test pieces, which was cool. I picked out a plain font for the basic wording (font name Optimus Princeps), and a fancy font for our names (font name Monika). Then, i bought the little tape dispenser looking rolls of doublesided permanent tape. I used that to mount the invite from the kit to black cardstock, and then trimmed the black cardstock to size.

I bought black ribbon in 7/8", dark pink ribbon in 5/8", small silver cord, and glue dots. The black and pink ribbon were secured together with the glue dots in the back of the invitation, but they were not glued to the invite itself, so that the ribbon could be slid off. Well, where the ribbon met was ugly, so i had to cover it up. So i printed our names/wanna be monogram on white cardstock cut to a 1 1/2" square. I mounted that to a black cardstock 2" square and used glue dots to secure the whole piece to the ribbon (pics of this with the rings!). Then, it was time to tie the silver cord. Originally i was going to have the silver underneath the monogram square, but it ended up being on top. Either way, i liked it and so do my guests. I've gotten tons of compliments. Some even wrote notes about them on the back of their RSVP cards! Lol.

The kit also included the matching RSVP cards and envelopes. Well, what most cards and envelope sellers forget to tell you is...if you're envelope is too small, it costs more to mail it. Which was the case here. So i bought your basic small letter envelope and used those instead. I think it saved me $17, but $17 is $17!

I included a map in the invitation as well, and everything fit just fine into the large envelope that came in the kit.
